The defendant Sixticton had one official judge and twelve official jury members who were selected at the start of each year and served for twelve months. The Mayor made the selections, and the defendant in the stands was racking his brains trying to remember if his lawyer had told him whether the Mayor was a sniffer-dog or not. Either way, he was looking at being tried by a panel consisting of eight people, three squirrels and a moose. And the moose looked mean.
