Write about: daybreak.

We have two weeks or so of November left, so I guess I'd better remind you about Hindsight :)

Daybreak
After the bath we drained the pool again and refilled it and washed all but our small-clothes since it seemed like an opportunity we'd not easily get again, and then I watched in slight bemusement while Ben and Jimmy wrestled two solid gold tables out of the doors and into the main halls "just in case". Then they laughed while I dragged a chair out, but the laughter stopped when they realised that only I had somewhere to sit, and so two more chairs got dragged out. And then we waited, in various states of sleep and wakefulness, for the morning and the relative safety of daybreak.
I read some more of the new book when Ben and Jimmy were both sleeping, and it was every bit as headache inducing as I expected, but slowly a story started to unfold that seemed quite strange. It seemed as though the priests had done something that had brought some kind of enemy into the city and then, realising their mistake, had attempted to slaughter them. But the monsters were clever, agile, and strong, and killing them was not easy, and produced a long, drawn out war between them and the people living in the city. There were some densely written passages that made my eyes water when I tried to read them, that seemed to explain what the priests had done in the first place, but whatever was trying to be said wasn't making it through my tired eyes and into my brain. Moreover, there seemed to be mention of the hooting monsters but I couldn’t work out how they related to the enemy that the priests had found.
We all jerked awake when the main doors slammed shut and we stared around the room wild-eyed. The light didn't seem much different, and when I went and stood under the crystal panels I realised that the sun was up and that that, rather than the moon going down, seemed to have been the signal for the doors to close.
"Makes sense," Jimmy said when I explained. "If the clouds covered up the moon five minutes after it rose you could be stuck there for a month, like you said, otherwise."
"Why would you put a records room where you could only get at it for a few days a month?" asked Ben.
I tapped the book I'd been reading. "Something to do with religion," I said. "and maybe war. Distribution of resources. I think there's probably more than one of those rooms, and each one is available at a different time, and there are -- there were factions in the city that meant they were all trying to control things."
"Gold?" asked Jimmy.
"Not gold," I said. "I don't know know what, but I do know it all changed after the hooting creatures came."
"Found out where they came from yet?"
I sighed. "The administration building."
"What?"
I shrugged, that being the most eloquent answer I had. "I don't know, it's really hard to understand what the writer is trying to say, but there's definitely a bit where he says they came from that administration building we found, where all the keys are."
"That doesn't make any sense," said Ben.
"I know. But... maybe when we're out of here I'll be able to figure it out. Or maybe it really doesn't matter."
"True that. Day’s broken , so let's get going. I want to leave this place behind sooner rather than later!"

Greg - bah humbug.

Hmm. I'm curious to see just how the hooting creatures got involved, and whether or not we actually get a clear answer on that account.

And so the adventure resumes...
