The exercise:

Write about: doubling down.

Got my second dose of the COVID-19 vaccination this afternoon. In Penticton. Because my appointment for this morning in Osoyoos was cancelled due to the wildfire.

Wildfires?

Either way.

They are expecting high winds this evening and overnight, so there is some concern about what that will do to the fires. Fingers crossed things don't get too crazy.

I am impressed at how organised you are (in Canada) that your vaccination was only delayed by half a day by wildfires. Here in Malta I've been hearing stories of people queuing for hours for their appointed vaccination while they run out of vaccine, source more, run out again, etc. Thankfully I managed to avoid all of that when getting vaccinated, though I'd say it more luck than planning....
And good luck with the overnight wildfires (that sounds like the name of a band... I bet they play East Wallingford).

Doubling down
The blond-haired Swede dyes his hair brown
(he wants to avoid being seen as a cliché).
And then enacts his plan to double-down,
A night of desperation out on the town,
Bringing back anyone he meets along the way.

Suzie's got a mohawk and a piercing
(It's not where people think, the nose-ring
is actually a clip-on because her stuttering
Made the piercer give up and send her home)
Now she's out and drinking all alone.

Paul's in the bars being saintly,
Trying, ever increasingly faintly,
To interest people in his tracts
(they contain interesting facts)
About BDSM and the joy of wax.

Three lives converge on a narrow road; ahead
Is a stormy evening of alcohol and a bed
(that nearly catches fire twice)
and a brief encounter with someone dead
(who really isn't all that nice).

Greg - well they cancelled the scheduled appointments for Oliver and Osoyoos and said you could either re-book, or go up to Penticton and tell them your time got cancelled due to the fires and they would take you. Since I live here anyway, it was just a matter of leaving work a bit early to get here before the clinic shut for the day.

So it worked out okay. My body fully disagrees with that assessment, but whatever, it's getting over it.

Also: thank you for the very subtle Gazette reminder. Don't worry, it's been on my mind for weeks. Likely coming out with the next edition on Sunday.

Hah, this poem goes for a wild ride. As do its characters. So I suppose it all fits together rather nicely, doesn't it?

Well done.
