The exercise:

Write four lines of prose about being: lost in the rhythm.

Put my headphones on and turned the music up this afternoon and just focused on getting the minutes done. Wasn't as bad as I'd feared it would be, but the Directors certainly could have made my life easier than they did.

Is the problem that the Directors keep talking over each other and it's hard to work out how to describe that in the minutes, or is there something else they're doing? When I've taken minutes in the past I've tended to summarise much of the discussion and only note the important things as close to verbatim as possible -- but I've never had to worry about legal requirements for my minutes, they've always been much more informal :)

Lost in the rhythm
Dr. Septopus clacked his beak, feeling irritated, and shook the paper that he'd found at Sylvestra. She, dripping slightly as the cryosleep evaporated around her and cooled the air enough for dew to condense out onto her hair and skin, yawned and tried to focus.
"Green has left a note saying he's lost in the rhythm!" said Dr. Septopus angrily. "Only he's supposed to be in cryosleep for at least another decade!"

Greg - no, we don't do verbatim minutes, thank God. It's more that there's an administrative recommendation from staff and if they'd just go with that my life is very easy.

But they get into complicated discussions and come up with alternatives that I have to figure out. Or, as was the case with this last meeting, one Director comes up with an amended motion, realizes after a lengthy discussion that he wants the administrative recommendation after all and has to amend what he's put on the floor.

So, a whole lot of wasted time, effort, and ink when they could have just gone with the damn motion put forward by staff.

Dr. Septopus! Long time no see :) And Green making his presence felt, even without being there. Ah, I've missed these three :)
