The exercise:

Write about: running around.

Busy day getting ready for the Board meetings tomorrow. They're mostly back to attending in-person, so I'm expecting 14 of the 19 Directors to be there.

Quite the change from the 3 that attended the first meeting after I started working there in January.

It sounds like you might have a quorum! That would be nice for you, I'm sure :) Does having more Directors present increase your workload directly, or is it more a peripheral thing with more people being around and doing things?

Running around
The Maestro locked the doors to the Auditorium carefully and then did something that Fabian couldn't make out before walking off. He, Dread and Rystin waited patiently, and the Maestro returned a couple of minutes later and checked the door and walked off again. A few more minutes of waiting and he returned yet again, checked the door and left again. Finally, after what felt like a half-hour, Dread relaxed a little and said, "He's left the building."
"Thank goodness," said Fabian, stretching. "I thought he was going to keep doing that for an hour."
"He takes security seriously," said Dread. "I should think you'd approve." He walked over to the door and examined it.
"Only when it doesn't keep me stuck in a small room with you two for half and hour," said Fabian. "Not that there's anything wrong with you, but it's a very small room for three of us while the Maestro runs around outside like a demented guard dog."
"A Verslach?" said Dread. "I didn't know you knew about them, they're pretty rare. You know, the Maestro's put a little spell on this door. He's got some magical training after all, then."
"Can you remove it?"
"Yes, but he'll notice. I can't put it back, it's... rather crude and I don't think I can make the same mistakes he's made."
"What?"
"He's made a series of mistakes that are all reasonable, but when you've been doing this for long enough, not doing it wrong is habit. And I don't think I can make all the same mistakes, I think my habits will correct some of them. Spells have to be cast at the right speed or they don't work, you know?"
"So we can't go tonight?" Rystin sounded only slightly hopeful.
"No, I didn't say that," said Dread. "Fabian needs to open the door, that's all."
"What!"
Dread grinned at Fabian's yelp. "You're the Director, and the spell won't affect you. Whatever else he is, the Maestro is conscientious. Or he doesn't want you to know he put the spell on the door, which... that might be more likely, actually. So if you open the door, he'll know, but I doubt he'll be able to complain."
"Right," said Fabian, a note of determination in his voice. "Give me a moment."
He returned with a stack of documents, marched up to the door and swiped it open with his card. There was a blue spark that made him jump and then the doors swung open. "Paperwork for the Maestro," he said. "Everything he hasn't filled in in the last year. Cass will be delighted to get it, finally, and it explains why I was in here."
Dread chuckled and Rystin looked embarrassed. Fabian marched through the door and called behind him,
"Come on! I haven't been running around with this stack of papers for us to forget what we're here for now!"

Greg - yeah, it does. When it was mostly attended virtually I didn't have to bother with catering. Now I'm ordering pre-meeting snacks and lunch. And the room setup is a little bit more involved, but it's mostly the food that complicates things on my end.

Thankfully I only have a few meetings left before I can hand it off to my replacement.

Bravo, Fabian! That was some quick thinking. And I fully appreciate the Maestro's level of caution, despite it inconveniencing the three waiting for him to get out of their way.
