The exercise:

Write four lines of prose about: snowfall.

Big day around here, as we finished the decking (only the last of the railing left now), I managed to get to the gym for a good run on the treadmill, we had our first serious snowfall of the year, and we celebrated Max's 1 month birthday by going up to Kat's parents place for homemade pizza and cake.

I'm sure Max will one day appreciate our efforts on his behalf. For now, I will enjoy his cake for both of us.

Mine:

Blind, heavy flakes collide as they approach the ground, as though they are last minute Christmas shoppers elbowing their way to the front of the line. They are, however, in no such rush. They feel no eagerness to reach their destination.

For the ground is being consumed by flames.

Wow, nearly done with the decking! Sounds like it'll all be done before the end of the year then, which is pretty good. And well done on getting to the gym, too :)
We've had a little bit of snow here and there, looks like being a cold winter for us this year. Which is kind of a nice change after the last couple of very mild ones.
Aw, poor snowflakes! I love the Christmas shopper analogy, very apposite!

Snowfall
"Snowfall," said the Green Lantern politely. Sylvestra, the Red Lantern, and Dr. Septopus looked first up, then at him.
"Where?" said the Red Lantern, frown lines creasing his ruddy face. As the Green Lantern pointed behind him, Sylvestra saw it first and screamed,
"Avalanche!"

It's funny what snow can do to places. Where I'm from, snow can be midcalf-deep and people'll say, "eh, I can still sweep it off the porch, this is nothing," and very little's affected. But you go south, and if it snows an inch or two, the entire world just stops, as far as the area's concerned.

In semi-related news, I'm hoping snow stays reasonable next weekend, so I can get back home in a reasonable fashion.

Greg - well, it'll be done if the weather agrees to it. Not sure we can do much if everything is covered in snow.

Hah! Ah, Green. A deft touch of subtlety :D

g2 - yeah, it's all a matter of perspective and what people are used to, isn't it?

And safe travels this holiday season!
