The exercise:

Write two haiku about: the racetrack.

Four more box days left this year. Almost there. Almost.

Today went pretty smoothly, actually. This afternoon was much less rushed than usual, thanks to my finally accepting that there just isn't enough time between lunch and putting the boxes together for me to have a rest.

So instead of trying to cram some sleep in there once Max was down for his nap, I just took things nice and slow. We ended up having everything ready to be picked up about half an hour early, which might be a record for us.

And good thing we did, since our first customer showed up twenty-five minutes early...

Mine:

Round and round they go,
their mad scramble for first place
leaving me dizzy

*     *     *

The whip cracks again.
Rider wants faster? Get down
and run it yourself!

Tight grip on the wheel,
Eyes never leaving the road,
They speed in circles.

As knights of today,
They show off to the ladies
Watching in the stand.

@Marc: Well it's a shame about your nap, for all I still believe that sleep is for the weak :-P However it does sound like skipping it today paid off, so that's a bonus at least!
I like your second haiku better today, as I'm sure that's what the horses are thinking!
[Sorry for the late post on yesterdays btw, work is extremely busy right at the moment, so I'm having to snatch any available minute!]

The racetrack
The going is soft,
The horses are heavy too...
sinking, not winning.

-------
Six greyhound traps loose!
Wait -- that's not a dog at all...
the panther comes first.

Ivybennet - hah, really like the knight reference in your second one. That's cleverly done :)

Greg - no worries about the lateness, I'm just always glad when you're able to find time to share your takes with us. Hope things settle down a bit for you soon... though I feel like I've said that a few times before.

The mental image your first haiku leaves me with makes it an easy favorite this week :D
