The exercise:

Write four lines of prose about: the rich kid.

I got a call yesterday morning to come work at the community centre today from 8:30 to 4, my longest single shift so far and the first time I got to work during the day at the centre.

It went well, I think. Definitely different having so many more people around, on both sides of the desk. Really starting to feel pretty comfortable with my duties there.

Plus it was nice to leave at the end of my shift without having to worry about cashing out - the woman arriving to do the 4 to 9 shift got stuck with that.

Looking forward to a quiet weekend with my family. Well, as quiet as Max can get.

Mine:

"There is no limit to his excess."

"I dunno about that... I think he's about to find one."

"What do you mean?"

"He's at the bakery right now, putting in an order for gold-plated candy bars."

I'm kind of curious what happened at the community centre to stimulate this prompt now :) However, I really like the idea of gold-plated candy bars (provided it's gold leaf they're edible I suppose) so your story works for me!

The rich kid
When the will was read, leaving 400,000 dollars to Bethany the eyes of most of the audience turned hard with hatred, and when it was then corrected to £400,000 there were definite murderous murmerings. Bethany seemed utterly unconcerned, as befits a goat only three months old, and she quietly defecated on the inch-thick carpet and eyed up the pillbox hat of a woman on the end of a row. Alice was named as Bethany's guardian, allowed to use some of the money for her personal expenses but mostly responsible for seeing that Bethany lived a better life than most people.
"How come I got stuck with the rich kid?" she muttered on the way out.

Greg - heh. Just a kid who was there for a boys basketball tournament. One of many who came to the desk looking for change. The only one who walked away complaining that all he had were twenties and fifties (dollar bills) when I reached a point where I didn't have enough cash in the till to deal with them.

That's an unexpected take on the prompt! I like it. A lot. In fact, I want to know some of what happens next :)
