I suspect we must be getting close to the other Thanksgiving, so do you have Black Friday shopping plans? Dress Max up like a ninja again and send him in early to the shops, perhaps? :)
An interesting prompt, and one that makes me certain you've recently read the last installment in this odd tale!

Artifice
Official scrabble tournament rules held that you went to the toilet between matches and not during, and you definitely didn't go together, but little old ladies with weak bladders and medical conditions they would about loudly and at length tended to defeat those rules quite quickly. So Theresa and Maureen were stood in the ladies, side by side at the mirrors pretending to adjust lipstick and blusher, and talking quietly.
"They're up to something," said Maureen, "because they keep playing the same words and the probability of them drawing the same letters like that is vanishingly small."
"Artifice;" said Theresa, "they're trying to pull our attention away from what's left in the bag and somewhere important on the board."

Greg: Good one! I want more with the scrabble ladies.

There was no telling what Evander had in mind when he called me into the cabin with his prisoner. He usually only needed another set of hands when the prisoner hadn’t been completely defeated and was attempting to overpower him. When I stepped into the cabin, however, I was shocked to find none other than King Adrian in shackles before Evander.
“What in Fate’s name,” I began but abruptly stopped when King Adrian’s face shimmered into that of a completely different man.

Greg - online Black Friday shopping, maybe. Certainly not daring to enter any stores in person.

Ah, nicely played with the prompt. I continue to enjoy this Friday Scrabble tale of yours.

Ivy - ooh, intriguing. So your narrator knows the king has been captured, but not Evander? That's a situation ripe with possibilities.
