The exercise:

Write two haiku about something that: sparkles.

So, barring Kat going into labour ten minutes after I post this, I've now got two prompts written up to cover my absence for the birth of my second son. They'll be scheduled as long as things aren't moving so quickly that I can't get to the laptop before I go out the door.

Also: if things go silent again after the scheduled posts I imagine it'll only be for a day. Should that happen I promise to return with extra baby pictures to make up for it.

Just for the record though, things are feeling pretty imminent tonight. I guess we'll see what happens though.

Mine:

It's oh so pretty
and shiny! I simply must
have it for my nest

Searching in the grass
for a lost diamond earring,
cursing gum wrappers

Baby! Best of luck to baby & Kat.

Catch light, reflect light,
Sparkles up on the ceiling
Ev'ryday rainbows.

@Morganna: I really like the last line of your haiku, and the image that the whole thing conjures up.

@Marc: Taking a laptop to the birth is a little indiscreet isn't it? At least with your phone you can hide that you're not paying attention to what's going on ;-)
I hope it all goes well and there's no complications too. Good luck.
I think I like your second haiku better today because of the contrast between the wrappers and the lost object :)

Sparkles
Sparkles the pony
Has been painted with glitter...
Daddy's not happy.

She has vajazzled,
And doesn't yet know that she's
used all the wrong glue.

Morganna - yeah, I can't believe we had another three weeks to wait at this point. Sure didn't feel like it at the time.

Lovely haiku. It really paints a picture in my mind.

Greg - I'm glad you liked that second one, as I recall worrying about making what was happening totally clear. Mission accomplished!

Oh good lord, your second one. Just... ouch.

All right, coughing fits are taking over. That's enough for tonight. Hopefully catch up more again tomorrow.
