Well, that prompt definitely puts me in mind of this, which I suspect is somewhat the direction you were thinking of. However, it occurs me to that a storyteller is also a liar, is it not?

At the storyteller's house
"Lenny," said the uniformed Mountie who was shivering and refusing to take his hands out of his pockets; he just inclined his head at the iced-over corpse lying with head, arms and shoulders across the threshold of the door and the rest of his body inside. "Also known as Lenny the grass, Lenny the liar, and Storyteller Smith."
Detective Collins looked at the corpse which appeared to have been dragged into place; there were livid bruises on Lenny's wrists and his fingers were dislocated; the pyjamas he was wearing had been pulled down to his knees by the carpet's friction; and his face had red shiny patches across it as though it had been frozen by whatever they used to take verucas off.
"We think an Ilmatu got him," said the Mountie, stamping his feet, "which is why his mouth is missing."
