The exercise:

Write four lines of prose about something that is: long overdue.

We're hitting the road tomorrow for our first proper family vacation in a very long time. I'm taking all of next week off so that we can visit my parents on Vancouver Island, with stops in Vancouver on the way there and the way back.

I'm going to schedule a few posts to help keep things relatively sane, but I expect once we arrive in Comox on Monday I'll be able to keep on top of things here without too much trouble.

Very much looking forward to this. It's been much too long since I was last on the Island.

That sounds nice, and hopefully you'll be away from the fires and the smoke for the whole week as well! Malta finally seems to cooling down as August ends so I think we might be getting back to the time of year when it's tolerable to live here, and soon it'll be "winter" (any civilised country would call it late Spring, but the Maltese do a convincing job of shivering and looking cold) :) Enjoy the trip!

Long overdue
"Everything is relative, even terms such as 'this woman is long overdue'," said Dr. Capsaicin shrugging and setting the patient's chart back on the end of her bed. The midwife accompanying him sighed and folded her arms under her impressive bosom, pushing it up so that it concealed her chin and rather ruined the effect of sternness that she was aiming for.
"She's been pregnant for nearly twelves months and she's clearly in distress," she said, her voice slightly muffled until she uncrossed her arms.
Dr. Capsaicin sighed and shrugged again; "And the latest Republican legislature says that we cannot even touch her within ten centimetres of her womb without being imprisoned for a lifetime."

Greg - nothing but blue skies and fresh air so far, I'm incredibly happy to report.

Oof, I can only imagine. Nine months is more than long enough to be pregnant. But of course it would be a Republican thing.
