The exercise:

A four line poem about: the New Year's Eve party.

Happy New Year to all of you, and may 2012 bring each of you good fortune and countless happy moments.

Mine:

As the sun sets on one more year,
We come together in good cheer
To reflect, toast, attempt to sing,
And wonder what the next will bring.

Happy New Year to you too! I'm sitting planning my New Year's Revolutions at the moment... fancy helping me invade Panama this year?

I think that's an excellent little poem to round the year off with!

New Year's Eve Party
Dr. Septopus is eating leftovers from lunch,
Sylvestra's drinking her alcoholic punch,
The Green Lightbulb is trembling, leaf-like with fear,
Not enjoying their party to celebrate the New Year.

Ring the alarm and tell the world to tick over,
The sun doesn’t care & the moon has gone sober.
Ring the alarm and tell the beginnings to wake,
Tis’ a small drop of time only humans double-take.

Greg - as long as you've got cool uniforms picked out, I'll be there!

That's quite the staff party for New Year's they put together :P

Writebite - sorry to hear about your loss, but glad to have you back with us. Hopefully writing can provide some comfort.

Inez - I think you've nicely captured the utter arbitrariness of new year celebrations.

I'd say I must be getting old and grumpy, but I've never thought too much of New Year's Eve.

@Marc and Greg - Consult Spook (aka Charley R) but she might be able to spare me from her world domination seamstressing to make sure your uniforms are spit spot. *grin*

And now for a true story... (if I can type it without falling onto the floor, laughing yet again!) Rofl

New years Eve Party
The TVs on, glowing with fireworks
The millennium approaches
A goer moves to the light switch
at Midnight the TV cuts off

Elor - most excellent! :D

Hah! Who needs TV anyway, right? Just open up the windows and listen for cheering from the neighbours :P

@Marc - the best part was, if I'd have hit the light switch, everyone would have gone - ha ha, who did that - but by hitting the switch that apparently turned off the TV, even I was confused as to what just happened... it was hilarious! *giggles* (And also amazing they didn't hear me giggling as I moved to the light switch.) :}

Need more writing today, so a take on the New Year . . .

She resolved to kiss him
But he kissed her
So she kissed her
And broke her resolution
