The exercise:

Twas the night before Christmas, but Two Haiku Tuesday is still Two Haiku Tuesday, so your haiku shall begin with: O Christmas Tree

I've been doing my best to choose opening lines that wouldn't make it excessively hard for Greg to continue his story, but this one was a challenge. I think it's workable though, and I'll even offer this little compromise: if you want to join your two haiku into one, six line mega-haiku, then only your very first line has to be the carol's opening line.

Me? Aside from the continuation/connection of the previous two days, I haven't been able to tell a continuous story this week, so I'm just going to do two separate haiku.

Also: I've found it rather remarkable that so many carols seem to be named after their opening line. It's gotten to the point that I can't be bothered repeating the title anymore, as you may have noticed.

Mine:

O Christmas Tree so
tall and fine, please tell me the
biggest gift is mine

*     *     *

O Christmas Tree, do
you ever wish that Christmas
lasted all year long?

Heh, thank-you for the consideration, but after four or five days of working Christmas carols into a setting where Christmas doesn't exist, I think I'm starting to get the hang of it! Maybe I should have thought a bit harder about what story to run for the week!
I think most hymns and carols take their names from their opening lines; it seems traditional almost.
Check your email, if you haven't already. I got Lessons in the Dust to you just before Christmas (as in, literally just before, but still!) Merry Christmas!
I definitely like your first haiku better today, as it sums up the modern Christmas sentiment rather well :)

O Christmas tree
O Christmas tree swore
Uruk as he left the Frost
Dragon behind him.

---------
O Christmas tree he
wonder'd. Whence came those strange words?
Unseen spirits laugh.

Greg - well, I'm glad you didn't think harder, as you've managed to weave together an excellent tale from all these prompts.

Thank you for getting that back to me, just under the wire as it may have been :) I will be getting back to work on that in the coming weeks, so if I have any questions or whatever you'll start hearing from me then :)

I think your second is my favorite this week, mostly for its final line.
