The exercise:
Today's starter, pulled from a random Google news headline: keeping the beat.
Mine:
Quack, quack, quack
Shouts the duck in the shack;
Hoot, hoot, hoot
Goes the owl in the boot;
Caw, caw, caw
Says the crow with the saw;
Moo, moo, moo
Calls the cow named Sue;
Woof, woof, woof
Yells the dog on the roof;
Purr, purr, purr
Chants the cat burning myrrh;
Roar, roar, roar
Knocks the lion at the door;
This, this, this
Is how nature beats its bliss!

I really like your poem, but for some reason Sue the cow doesn't seem right 'calling.' Cows do low, would that work do you think?
If I'm going to criticise I have to offer a fair target of my own though!
Keeping the beat
One foot falls and then the other,
A heavy stride is keeping time,
A weary mind awaits some bother,
A watchful eye looks for crime.
A hardened helmet shields the head,
Toughened steel protects the feet,
Following in danger's tread,
A policeman keeps the beat.
You're probably right about the cow thing (how many times have I had to say that in my life?). I was just caught up in being random.
I liked yours - I had thoughts of doing something in that vein originally but then the crazy took over :)
