This place of work has taken away
My favorite way to spend the day.
I am feeling lost, lonely and beat;
My only company: this spreadsheet.
I don't know how I can operate,
I must get home, I can barely wait!
Why did I leave there, did I forget?
That at work I have no internet...

The lonely worker's lament:
My best friend on this island is the taxi driver that picks me up from the airport and who takes me to and from my hotel each day. He's funny, charming, never fails to point out the hot women as we go past, and apparantly works more hours than I do. Whereas the people I'm here to see and help are full of false bonhomie, always appear delighted to see me, and are too busy at lunch to talk to me and wouldn't dream of inviting me out for a drink after work. I know whose company I miss more when I fly back home.
As someone who works in the net, your sentiments are real.

A Day at the Office
It was this morning’s demand for coffee no cream,
yes, it was that moment that popped my spine in two.
I flopped around my cubicle in mild confusion
as limbs unable to communicate with
brain tried independently to give
two weeks notice.
The boss looked over the cubicle wall and,
observing I was busy and productively flopping,
obviously getting the job at hand,
left or right?, done,
walked away with the sure knowledge that
he’d inspired.
One arm reached for the phone,
one for the computer keyboard and both
pinky fingers tapped out their individual SOS,
all the while, left big toe flipped the Rolodex round
searching, in vain?, for the toll free number
to sanity.
